Engaging Learners Through Gamification in Genially
Live Virtual Professional Learning Workshop
Objective: Create an infographic that succinctly provides an overview of the key takeaways and resources provided during a Genially webinar on using gamified learning for audience engagement in corporate settings
Tools Used: Genially
Summary of Role: I was part of a three-person team of instructional designers that led over 260 corporate learning and development professionals in a live virtual workshop in the spring of 2024, providing tips on how to get started in using Genially for amplifying engagement in corporate training using gamification techniques. Breakout of Boring Lessons!
Live In-Person Professional Learning Workshop
Objective: Build teacher capacity for designing activities to support student engagement
Tools Used: Google Slides, Adobe Firefly, Canva, and hands-on learning
Summary of Role: At another professional learning conference, I facilitated a hands-on workshop for educators to learn about gamification in the classroom; specifically, breakouts, or escape rooms. Using a Google Slide set, I shared best practices with developing breakouts to an audience of approximately 25 K-12 educators then provided them time to try it out themselves! All were fully engaged and couldn't wait to take what they learned back to their instructional settings.

A sample of the original script I created to start the breakout is provided at left; click on the music icon in the bottom right corner of the image to hear the recording.
Using Technology to Learn Science
Live In-Person Professional Learning Workshop
Objective: Build teacher capacity for using technology effectively for educational purposes
Tools Used: Google Slides and hands-on learning
Summary of Role: In 2014, I co-presented at the Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) conference in Roanoke, Virginia in partnership with my graduate studies advisor. Modeling student-centered learning while presenting, I led the life-science related breakout group (while my co-presenter led the physical science one), covering key ideas, allowing time for hands-on exploration, and fielding questions about implementation.

While I do not still have assets from the presentation, the picture here is of the location where the presentation took place.
